A memorial garden has been built in memory of young athlete, Stacey Burrows who was killed in Aldershot, at Fernhill School in Farnborough. They have also renamed their sports hall to 'The Stacey Burrows Sports Hall'.
17-year-old Lucy Pygott also lost her life that day.
The two young athletes were on track to represent Great Britain in their sport and were sadly involved in a collision with a black Ford Focus on Queen’s Avenue in Aldershot. The pair were training with the Aldershot, Farnham and District Athletic Club and correctly crossed at a set of traffic lights in Aldershot when they were hit by a drink driver and were tragically killed.
The project won £2,000 worth of funding as part of the Kebur Community Challenge a competition in conjunction with Eagle Radio and Kebur Garden Materials.
Fernhill School said, "Last November we tragically lost one of our students Stacey Burrows when she was knocked down and killed whilst out running. We are aiming to have a memorial garden outside the school sports hall for students to come and reflect and celebrate the life of such a wonderfully talented young girl. The garden will be used during social times at school but also for her family to come and remember their daughter at a place where she spent so much of her last five years of life.”
Tony Lane the owner of Kebur Garden Materials told Eagle Radio, "Hopefully this will help to ease the pain a little bit for the family and for the people at the school to have this memorial garden, so that's our winner this year."
Stacey’s Father Lee Burrows said, “I went to this school, all my parents went to this school so the Heritage is huge. When I was in school here, there was just… a tennis court here and then to see this structure now it's unbelievable.”
