Mustard Autism Trust is a charity that works with children and families who have a diagnosis of autism in Farnborough.
The Hampshire Autism Charity was founded in September 2011 by Francis Bland and Sarah Clements.
How Mustard Seed Autism Trust Began…
“They recognised the need in our church to support parents so they started working with children and taking them to one side so their parents could actually focus on the service and that went on for about ten years… and people would come specifically to the church because they heard about the service they were providing there.”
Sarah and Francis both recognised that if there was that much needs within the church, how much more was there outside in the community…
“When your child is diagnosed with autism; you see a pediatrician and they say to you your child has autism and then that's it. We had just been to one professional after another and really received no practical help but with Sarah and Francis they actually provide really practical support to each other”
“[They say] I know it sounds awful right now or it feels like you can't cope and you probably can't but, there is light at the end of the tunnel they have great resources that you can use so they have books on various information… they have a Facebook site as well that they put lots of information up on.”
“My son…got a home visit from Sarah that's where she realised that he might benefit from the Ready, Steady, Go group, so they’ll always start whatever the activity is with ready, steady, go and some of the children will then say go and these are nonverbal children who are so full of anticipation and so ready for what it is that she's about to show them… which is amazing because she's brought them out of their bubbles because that's the thing with autistic children is that they live in their own..”
