The fourth season of the Netflix series Sex Education is currently under production. Moordale Secondary is closing at the end of season 3, forcing Otis and the rest of his classmates to start over somewhere else. Maeve has taken things one step further and embarked on a new journey in the USA with Schitt's Creek star Dan Levy as her mentor.

Otis and Eric now confront a fresh challenge after Moordale Secondary was shut down: their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College.

Eric hopes they won't be seen as losers again as Otis worries about opening his new sex therapy clinic. For all of the Moordale students, Cavendish is a huge culture shock because while they felt they were modern, this new college is on a different level. The college's pupil, non-competitive ethos completely surprises Viv, but Jackson is still having trouble moving past Cal. They do daily yoga in the community garden, have a strong emphasis on sustainability and even another sex therapist on campus.

Otis and Maeve

Maeve is pursuing her goal in the US at prestigious Wallace University, where renowned author Thomas Molloy is her professor. While adjusting to not being the only child at home or the sole therapist at school, Otis is longing for Maeve's return. After finally admitting their feelings to one another during a kiss in France, Maeve and Otis are still "will they/won't they?" going into Season 4.

Adam

Eric and Adam have officially broken up after realising that they are on different pages with their sexuality.  Eric, who had been openly gay since the beginning of the series, compared Adam to a toddler just learning to walk. Adam has repaired his relationship with his family, and he is just beginning the process of coming out. Additionally, he's grown to enjoy dog training and is using it as an outlet to stay calm and connect with his true self.

Aimee

By enrolling in an art A-Level, Aimee attempts something new, while Adam questions whether traditional education is right for him. Aimee has broken up with her boyfriend and is now seeing Jean for therapy since she is still struggling with the affects of a sexual assault she had on a bus in season two. She has always had a boyfriend as a safety net but comes to the realisation, that she is  still here and I'm fine, despite all the extremely scary events that have occurred. Aimee starts with no friends at her new school because her best friend Maeve is in the USA.

Jean and Jakob

At the end of season three, Jean almost died while giving birth. Because of her unplanned pregnancy, Jean was able to get closer to Jakob, Ola's Father. However, as she was recovering in the hospital during the last moments of the show, she learned the DNA results and Jakob isn't her new child's Father. Does she keep secrets to Jakob to keep their happy relationship going?

Ola and Lily

Patricia Allison, who plays Otis's ex-girlfriend and sort-of Step Sister Ola Nyman, will not be returning. We are heartbroken as Ola was such a great character! She announced her departure on Capital Xtra’s Breakfast Show  in July 2022 and says she is exploring alternative roles so we will see her back on screen soon. She is rumoured to be a part of the show Extraordinary on Disney+ also released in 2023.

Also in July, Tanya Reynolds who plays Lily Iglehart and Ola's girlfriend will not be returning either! At least the iconic duo will be away at the same time. Lily’s storyline had almost wrapped up at the end of the third season and the closure of the high school allows for a plausible exit for both Lily and Ola.

Abbi and Kent

Two new transgender characters are joining the Sex Education cast for Season 4 named Abbi and Kent. At the casting call, the pair were described as a "power couple". Abbi was kicked out from her ultra-religious and conservative family and lives with Kent and his parents. Abbi is described as the leader of her group and sunny, magnetic, generous and loyal. Her look is meant to be 1990s Winona Ryder. Kent, a trans man, is described as goofy, forgetful, and a great listener.

Sex Education's fourth season will premiere sometime in 2023 (presumably in the Autumn/Fall season), according to an official announcement made on September 25, 2021 at the Netflix Tudum worldwide fan event.
